    Janice L. Goldberg has directed over 50 new plays that have ranged in scope from mime to musical, from contemporary farce to courtroom drama, from plays for women to plays full of testosterone. Off Broadway she directed Rose Colored Glass which she co-wrote with Susan Bigelow and is published by Samuel French, Inc.  Off Broadway and Independent New York venues include: Michael Schimmel Arts Center, Circle in the Square Downtown, Soho Rep, Soho Playhouse, CAP21, Theatre 54, Algonquin Theatre, Neighborhood Playhouse, 78th Street Theatre Lab, Circle Rep, Greenwich House Theatre, Circle East, The Lambs, HERE, Vital Theatre, Pulse Ensemble Theatre, Nat Horne Theatre, Harold Clurman Theatre, Chasama, Manhattan Theatre Source, New American Globe, directing the works of such celebrated playwrights/composers as Carol Hall, Joe Pintauro, Betty Shamieh, Jocelyn Beard, Dakota Powell, Scott Carter, Tom Diggs, Molly Smith Metzler, Jimmy Flynn, Jennifer Rudin, James Felder, Barbara B.Goldman, Ty Adams, Jon Fraser, Mark Dunn, Fred Stroppel, and Gregory Fletcher.


      She directed the New York revival of Lone Star & Laundry and Bourbon for the Bridge Theatre Company at Shetler Studios with original music by Wes Hightower of George Strait’s Ace in the Hole Band, SubUrban Legend by Jocelyn Beard, The Gathering Room at the New York International Fringe Festival (winner Best Overall Actor).  She also directed Bindlestiff’s Dance Hall, in Northern California, commissioned for the National Eco-Drama Festival and featured in American Theater Magazine; Vinegaroon written by Scott Carter (producer Politically Incorrect), Mark Dunn’s The Deer and the Antelope Play, Betty Shamieh’s Love; the Canadian premier of Richard Strand’s The Median Strip in Montreal, and for NBC, the national showcase for the Native American Talent Search. At the Turnip Festival in New York, Janice twice won awards for Best Direction. Regionally she has worked at the Venice Little Theater (FL), Tulsa Rep, The Centaur Theatre (Canada), New Jersey Rep, NorthCoast Rep, Redwood Curtain, (CA). 


      Janice has co-authored five plays with Susan Bigelow and has directed each at Plays-in-Progress in Eureka, CA as well as Autumn Run for CAP21’s Blackjacks Festival.  Rose Colored Glass has been a finalist for the USTheaterwest Competition and the Dorothy Silver Playwriting Award and was also read with Frances Sternhagen at Manhattan Theatre Club.


      As a respondent for the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival, Janice serves as the SSDC rep for Region II and Region IV.  She is the recipient of a Pilgrim Project Grant, a Writer/Director Residency at the Dorset Writers' Colony, VT and has been honored for her work at NYU.  She has been a guest artist/director at Johns Hopkins, Humboldt State, College of the Redwoods, Tisch School of the Arts, SUNY Brockport, and CAP21, NYU.  She wrote and directed an industrial for M&M*MARS and is a founding member of the First Look Theatre Company for New York University’s Dramatic Writing Program, a member of Circle East (Circle Rep), SSDC and the Dramatist’s Guild. Janice holds degrees from the University of Maryland and Salisbury State University.  She studied under the legendary Leland Starnes from Yale University and serves as Artistic Co-Director of Artistic New Directions in New York.
